S10 EV Conversion

Welcome to my first electric conversion

  1. First I found a donor vehicle. Warp to it!
  2. Then I chose the system size. Warp
  3. Replace / Repair any faults, basic restoration (if needed). Warp
  4. The careful measurements are next, so as to get it right the first time! Warp
  5. Next, removal of the ICE (internal combustion engine). Warp
  6. Cleaning of the engine bay, now that it's cleared out of the dirty stuff. Warp
  7. More measurements, after the empty engine bay is cleaned. Warp
  8. Finally the installation of the electrical drive system. Warp
  9. Testing of the equipment. Warp
  10. Now for some upgrades. Warp

My Idea

System

  • As this S10 will be heavy (around 1678kgs curb weight after conversion) I am going with a 144V system.
  • To get 144V I will be using 24 6V golf cart size AGM batteries (lead-acid).
  • This S10 has power steering and brakes, therefore a separate motor and pump, respectively, will control those systems.
  • Each sub-system will be powered from a DC/DC converter from the bank of batteries (12V).

Restore

Measure

The ride height will be compared, and adjustment if needed, before and after conversion. The ride height to the top of the highest point in the wheel well is:

LF 29 5/8" RF 30 3/4" LR 29 5/8" RR 30 1/4"
